Hey Guuys,
Setting up a 240 reef set in the wall, I have a 13x5 room behind it. I am set for lighting(3 400 watters). I am thinking of putting a 65 gal. refugium w/ deep sand in it. any ideas or caveats you can think of. Also as i have never had a tank set in the wall is there anyone who does and knows of any problems inherent in such?
Thank's
eric

Lucky you, eric! ;)

A refugium would be perfect since you have room to work with behind the tank. The larger, the better :) I can see nothing wrong with using one.

As for the tank being in-wall, the only concern I can think of is weather/water sealing any adjacent interior wood exposed to the tank.

You should seal any wooden joists and splashable surfaces around your wall opening very well with your favorite sealant. Epoxy paint is best. A few coats. (I missed a 1/4" area with the sealer that will shortly become a nasty dry rot headache).

You will need to ventilate your fishroom because of humidity.

Make sure your electrical wiring is sufficient for your tank needs, even way down the road when you want/need to add stuff.

my buddy has a 135 in the wall. His utility room is behind it. washer /dryer. He did the set-up twice. He s barely finishing it now. He had his 1st set-up running 5yrs and got bored I guess. He added a 80gallon refugium he hard plumbed this his skimmer and chiler to his garage. Its quite a bit of work. The 1st thing he recommended is upgrading the electric and using heavier circuit breakers. That was his 1st mistake. Add the refugium I would go with 75gallons. your evap rate will be high. He had to put in a fan because he had poor ventialtion. His tank looks great. Im holding this angel for him. Good luck.
