I got a great deal on 23 lbs of fiji from someone downsizing, it does'nt seem to have any critters and stuff on it , but the coralline is great and where it's not coralline it's a nice bright white, what i want to do is put this rock in a temporary tank to keep it in this shape until i get a handle on my main tanks nuisance algae problem (hair and green film) If i was to set up a tank for the sole purpose of this rock, what is minimum i would need to do it? Would i need to use any aged water or is all new ok?

Temperature & circulation to keep the bacteria happy, lights to keep the coralline algae happy, and probably a protein skimmer.

Freshly made saltwater is fine, aging by 1 or 2 days is great.

Oh, and would one of the admins or moderators give the big "Welcome to reefs.org" message? Welcome from me, but it's nowhere as impressive as the flying banner...

using all new water is fine being it has had the 'mandatory' 24hrs since mixing.
acclimation is best for anything live, but in comparison to the stress liverock is put through in transit to the states, dunking it in some fresh synthetic seawater is minimal... again, in comparison.
depending on how long the rock will stand idle in a holding tank, i would consider buying a small piece of recent arrival rock at an LFS to put in the tank with it. this would take advantage of the refugium qualities of the holding tank and help reseed the older rock with some new life.
