went to the GRAND OPENING of 'pet extreme' today...bascially petsmart extreme....not too impressive...however right when you walk in they have a nice huge tank with a single black tip shark...i wasn't paying to much attention to it but as i walked by i saw these 2 young girls staring into the tank and heard one say, "ooh he's bleeding....come on lets go'...

anyway, in the saltwater section i found a fist sized rock with 2 types of macro algae growing on it and a single polyp of some kind...i bought it and came home, threw it in the tank and i always examine the bag afterwards to see if theres any critters left behind like pods and such...i was stunned to see a bright green mantis shrimp staring at me in the bag.... 8O

don't know how rare that is and i would've set up a small tank for him but i just wasn't ready...i ended up driving to a different store to try and get some store credit...i asked for 5 bucks....they said they didn't want him...asked for 2 bucks, they still said no....i asked for 50 cents and still ...no..

i ended up 'donating' him....at least they took him...this ever happen to anyone?

I'm just amazed you're posting anywhere besides the sump :D

Blacktip reef shark, eh? I wouldn't frequent that place ever again....unless they have customers with 10,000 gallon + or so tanks, that shark is destined to die. Damn shame.

Lots of places sell mantis shrimp for 10-20 bucks. They're pretty interesting little buggers. I'd really like to see an episode of "jackass" or "wildboyz" where they let one of these little guys strike their finger.

Well as t-----hey say in your part of the world Enshahllah. (What God wills)

Anyway green huh, it may have been one of those pictured in Fenner's book The Conciencous Marine Aquarist and labeled as "Peacock Mantis Shrimp" in the shrimp and crab secxtion in the back of the book. It was a killer looking little monster. I'd like to grow one up, then I can feed him my little brothers when they piss me off. lol

Well Abu till next time Marhabteen or is it (Pardon spelling) Dhar A Salhammah

Well he has a tank sitting on an old cot frame only a foot or so off the floor so you never know!

Lucky find but I would have put it in a small tank and found some one who wanted it.

Let this be a warning to those who think you don't need to quarantine EVERYTHING.

Absolutely, great pets in dedicated tanks. However, I had a small one absolutely decimate my first reef tank - took out all fish, motile inverts, and my prize T. derasa. Color sm one UNhappy camper. :(

I have a mentis that killed every fish in my tank except my mandrainfish. It leave my derasa alone, as well as my crocea, so YMMV.

Oh, yeah, I have no doubt he would take out fish or inverts. I mean they make great pets if you have a tank just for them of course. I think the 5 gal tank I picked up for him was worth every penny.

"YMMV" just to show the difference behavior of my mantis with my clam and yours with your clam.

I'm gonna go with your guess, LM, seeing as how the man didn't really 'splain it clearly and all.
