I ws looking at their website, http://www.automatedaquariums.com/index.htm , and noticed their FlexPLC would make a nice stand alone controller that is much more versatile than others on the market. Interested if anyone has had any experience with their systems. Or any other automation systems other than the old dedicated for aquarium systems.

Haven't heard anything about them, good or bad.

From a quick check of their website, it looks like they're just repackaging home automation components for the aquarium hobby. I couldn't find the exact unit used in their "FlexPLC" system, but it's very similar to what you might find here: http://www.smarthome.com/x10comp.html

Shop around and make sure they're not charging outrageous markups for stuff you might be able to find from another industry/hobby.

It is quite a bit different than the X10 systems as it is really just a PLC. Their FlexPLC system is kinda limited, but their AMACS system is pretty much the same that ran the mill I used to work at. Albeit there were about 100 of them operating in different areas. Here are more accurate links to their products.
FlexPLC: http://www.automatedaquariums.com/fplc_tour.htm
AMACS: http://www.automatedaquariums.com/starter.htm

I am really quite interested in these since I do know how well PLC's can work at automating some tasks. My father in law is the head electrician at the mill I used to work at who does most of the programming of the PLC's and surely thinks that they would work for an aquarium application based on the right programming. Any comments would once again be appreciated.

IME, PLC is more reliable than X10. This is why I try very hard to stay away from X10, althought there is not much reason to do so. :? It is more of a personal preference due to past work experience more than anything rational.

Anyway, PLC will work for aquarium application. But as I said, I tried to contact the AA, but the owner appearantly does not reply back... let me know if anyone ever get a reply from him...
