Is there any way to open the impellar area up and see inside? I have a Mak 4 running a skimmer and it suddenly just stops pumping water except at a very low rate. I thought the becket on the skimmer was clogged so I fixed that by soaking it in vinager but that didn't help. So I checked the pump and realized thats the problem.

It seems like the impellar is housed in a white un-openable compartment so I can't see if it is bad or not.

What do you think?

There SHOULD be, because I have noticed that you can buy replacement impellers for them.

I ended up findng the problem, an acrylic screw was sucked in the pump and jammed in the impellar area. I was never able to open it but did'nt try so hard. With the price of the replacement I was'nt about to get a hammer out!

Thanks

Ben, mine has 6 screws around the front of the white enclosure. Thats the impellar access for cleaning or replacement.

Agreed... it should be real simple to take apart. Remove the screws. The plastic front end slides right out seperating from the metal backend. The plastic section is made of two parts. Should pop right open nothing fancy.

I'd suggest you clean these out and soak 'em good twice a year or so.
