I had a pretty bad experience with a wholesale vendor recently This was an order I got for a customer of mine. I'm not going to state the vendor name yet.
1) Placed the order, had verbal confirmation that the items were in stock: the order was: (1) Sallylight foot, (12) Scarlett hermits, (50) Zebra Hermits, (35) Tiger Turbo, (60) Nassarius.
2) I requested fedex shipping, he talked me out of it saying shipping via air cargo was cheaper ($0.68/b vs $1.50/lb). I live close enough to an airport to pickup Delta Dash air cargo.. no problem.
3) Agreed upon date arrives.. no notice of shipping. No tracking number, not even a stated total cost yet. Call them up and I find out some of the critters are no longer in stock the order was held. I can understand this, we agree to try again next week.
4) Next week all items are in stock and it ships. Again no e-mails on shipping information. Call them up again (long distance no 800 number). After waiting a bit I finally get a Delta tracking number. Delta web sites shows it in CA, called the Delta 800 number they show it in Ohio (I think). They give me yet another number to call.. they tell me flight arrived an hour ago and my order was waiting. I can understand the airline mixup.. my boss wasn't thrilled with me leaving at noon to pickup a package for personal use. But hey... i can live with this, but things are getting annoying.
5) Box is in great shape. Go straight to my customers house, looks to be packaged perfectly except the heat packs are cold and the water bags are very cold to the touch.
6) Start the drip acclimation proccess after floating the bags for a few minutes to warm them up. One of the tiger turbo bags are cloudy and the bag stinks!! I located a few dead snails and attempted to save the rest. Other critters look OK so far.
7) After dripping for several hours, I inspected the shells before adding to the customers tank.... I'm amazed at what I find:
Of the 12 Scarletts - 5 empty shells (no animal!)
Of the 50 Zebra's - 26 empty shells
Of the 35 Tiger's - 6 DOA, 1 empty shell.
Of the 60 Nassarius - 9 empty shellss.
Animals die in shipping it happens... but these are empty shells they charged me for!! I look like a complete fool infront of this customer.
8) I call them up pretty pissed. Wait for a call back. I get a callback message of "the packing guy says its impossible that you got empty shells". WTF! I'm lying? I offer to mail him the shells.. he declines. He'll call me back.
9) Next day, no call back. I call them the next day. Have to wait for owner to review he's out today (have to wait till monday now).
10) Guess what still no call back.... call them again. They'll credit me claimed losses for my NEXT order. I don't expect this to be a repeat customer now. I figure this is settled, I can work out something with the customer.
11) Nearly 2 weeks later I have another charge on my credit card.. for $72.69. Now what!! I call up yet again. He tells me that is the shipping for your order. I tell him it can't be. It's $0.68/lb and it was 20 lbs and my invoice already had shipping fee's (box charge, heat packs, and a Minimum Service Fee). At most shipping should be around $13.60. He'll call me back....
12) Wow he actually calls me back. That is my shipping fee. Turns out air cargo has a minium shipping fee of 100 lbs!!! + tax (my order was 20lbs). I say "but you talked me out of Fedex saying it would be twice the price!" Turns out it would have been half the price because they have no such minimum weight fee.
"Sorry" is all I can get out of him.
Should I not feel likely beating something with a bat???
