:? I just bought a Blue Tang and it had ick within a couple days, it is in a quarintine tank and has been treated with cooper for about a week. The ick is getting better, but he will not eat anything and just stays by the filter intake, any suggestions??

Sometimes fish have depressed appetites when being treated with medication. Was he eating prior to stickin him the QT tank? You should try various foods to try to coax him to eat. WHat are you feeding him presently?

The honorable len said it all,

Make sure you try a varied diet.

Also, try using a garlic additive like Kent GarlicX. Works as a food attractant and immune system booster.

I did try several different foods, flake, frozen brine and did soak in Kent GarlicX. Should I do a water change and put back in the carbon and try the hyposalinity treatment? And how would you do the treatment? This is my first saltwater setup and am still learning a great deal, much to the credit of this site and other like it.

Thanks I just stopped at my LFS and got some, but so far nothing. I also noticed that my ammo levels are high even after a 30 % water change.

I do not see any more ick on him and I am wondering if I should chance putting him in the main tank just for better water quality.

To add to what Minh said, the gilled-ones can not resist live food, like brine shrimp. The problem is that brine shrimp are not very nutritious.

I recommend that you remove the water from a brine shrimp portion by pouring the contents thru a net. Discard the water and place the remaining brine shrimp in a container. Add some Selcon to the brine shrimp and let them soak for 20 to 30 minutes or so. The longer you wait, the more the brine shrimp will absorb the suppliment. With that said, however, don't let the brine shrimp soak for days on end. Add the brine shrimp to your tank and watch the gilled-ones go crazy. The gut-loaded brine shrimp will provide more nutrition.

After a meal or 2 of those gut-loaded brine shrimp, your hippo should be doing much better.

Thanks for all your comments, I put the Tang back into the main tank after I seen that the ick appeared to be gone and he is doing much better now.
