My 60g tank made it through the last power outage (4 hours) unscathed, but was thinking as I add more livestock ($) to the tank, would like some additional protection. Power here is pretty stable, so I'm not looking at a generator. I can easily go out and buy a UPS at any computer store, but was wondering if anyone here's found a UPS without all the bells and whistles (USB, serial outputs, etc). Not sure if even power filtering is necessary - just a nice big battery.

Also, for anyone with UPS's on their tank(s), what are you backing up? Filtration only? Heaters? (I figure heaters could run a battery down real quick)

Hi Curtis,
I have a 110 gallon tank here in Rochester,NY (where in the winter power IS NOT stable :) ). I do have a geneartor for when the power is out for an extended time, but for the first 6 - 10 hours I have a battery out of a 1986 Nissan hooked to a 8oo watt inverter. This will power my circulation pump and heaters for around 10 hours before the inverter shuts down. Once a month I plug in my charger to charge the battery and let it sit after that. My short-term backup will not power up my MH and VHO's, but just about everything else. Ther inverter you can get at Sams/BJ's or Walmart for around 50 bucks. Find a decent old car battery and your all set......
Hope it helped
