Juck,
I am surprised you have not ended up with dead fish from stress, ich or just from fighting. I agree with npaden and keefsama, your method does not seem wise for anyone to try. It would be like putting you in a cage with a tiger and see how well the tiger likes you. Just not a smart thing in my opinion and not a healthy thing to do for the fish.

Well,, I ain't here to win a popularity contest.

You both are making some big assumptions about the size and depth of both my library and experience.

>>I'll advise people to stick
>>with the methods currently recommended

Man,, we'd all still be banging rocks together if everyone thought like that.

Honest, I don't want get into a flame war; so knock yourself out,, I've said my bit,, I won't argue further.

The way I do it works for me,, simple as that. Putting a couple of clowns in a 3 gallon bowl for a few days doesn't pinch my conscience or harm the fish one bit.

Seems like a good time to inject: Disagree to your heart's content, but be respectful of one another's opinions. Continue on, fellow reefkeepers :P

FWIW, Captively bred Maroon clowns are available. I'm pretty sure they have a real good idea how to pair them at www.orafarm.com . Anyone truly interested may want to ask them.

IME, adding a very small 1" juvie to a tank first for a few days and THEN adding a huge female (around 4-5") has worked. That's exactly how my LFS creates "pairs". The reverse order is what Wilkerson suggests, but I suspect both ways will work.

FWIW, maroon clowns can also beat up a BTA pretty badly. I was unfortunate enough to have my female bite the tentacles off my prized new rose BTA a while back. The only way I saved it was to remove it to the refugium. It's apparently not an unusual occurrence for this to happen when maroons are adapting to the anemone.

Wow guys, I just got back from a long weekend only to see that I had started a big dispute. So not to beat a dead horse, but have any of you ordered a pair form like jeffs exotic or some place like that? Are the pairs they are selling a true pair?
Thanks guys

JD,
Don't feel like you have to get a pair of Premnas just because you have an Entacmaea quadricolor anemone (bubble tip). In the wild bubble tips host A. akindynos, A. allardi, A. bicintus, A chysopterus, A. clarkii, A. ephippium, A frenatus, A mccullochi, A. omanensis, A. rubrocintus as well as Premnas biaculeatus (maroon) In the aquarium pretty much any clown might accept one for a home. I have two pair of A. percula in bubble tips. I also have a pair of black ocellaris that live in a bubble tip. And I also a pair of A. polymnus that go into a bubble tip. In the tanks with metal halide I don't worry about feeding E. quadricolor, although feeding the fish probably gets some food to the anemone I have three in tanks with compact twin tubes and I try to feed these a little.
