I don't see why predation is not aggression.

1) The fighting corals by Pineapple House is a perfect example. Both are at war using weapons (nematocysts), and that war is occuring right out in the open.

Is it really fair to say that corals are armed? Isn't that a bit like saying that 2 guys in a fist fight are armed because they have hands?

1) No, not gritty - only when one misunderstands the nature of what is being asked for.

We're looking for photos that show some sort of aggressive display, be it a fish flaring its fins in a territorial dispute or a coral with stinging sweepers on the prowl.

Seeing how all cnidarians fire nematocysts at a rate equivalent of 2 meters per second (or 40,000 G's), I would consider them one of the most heavily armed animals on the planet.

With all due respect, I think people are dwelling too much on semantics. Photography is a form of art, and art is highly interpretative. Post what you consider war and let the members decide themselves via votes.

We are just going to have to disagree, Righty. I was trying to express my interpretation of what was being asked for. You did the same.

But, I like all of the photos!

Fair enough. I was enjoying the converstation because I enjoy figuring out why people, including I, think the things they do. But, I think Len is right, and this may not be the right place for this discussion.

But, I like all of the photos!

Me too!
