Hey guys. I have a red sea berlin air lift skimmer, and I'm tired of these horrible limewood stones they make for it. I was wondering if anyone knows of any good quality airstones, as I am tired of replacing them every week or so.

Any other suggestions would be welcomed.....is it possible to use a ceramic air diffuser instead? Just curious what you all have done in the past if you dealt with this issue.

Peace.

Sanders makes the best wooden air diffusers. They may be harder to find these days since venturi skimmers have taken over the market for the past 12 years or so.

I feel that a good quality counter-current skimmer with wooden air diffuser(s) will outperform a venturi skimmer. Venturi skimmers are too turbulent to be highly efficient. But they still do a good job.

zosterae311, I make my own out of basswood. save the barbed insert from the old airstone, drill and cut the basswood and insert barb and you have a very fine airstone. I have been using basswood for 6 yrs. now! basswood has very fine pores, they still need to be replaced every 3-4 weeks. If you need more details PM me!

I make mine out of basswood also.
For prolonged service of the wooden air stones, change them before they are really bad, clean them and dry them out, before using them again.
If you rotate about 4 of them in and out of service you will probably triple the active life of each stone.
