Problems/confusion with CO2 Canister

Hello.

I recently bought a 10 lb CO2 canister from a local welding supplier.

I came home and placed the regulator on the nossel. Upon gently turning the dial to release the pressure, air started to rush out of the area right around the dial on the canister - as well as through the regulator.

I am just wondering if the canister is faulty or if I have placed the regulator on incorrectly.

Any thoughts?

Do you mean the co2 was coming out through the threads of the thing you were turning on the top of the canister?

That would be highly not right!

Was the valve on the reg open?
