I will have to add a new chiller to my 550g system when I move to Fl in a few months. I may end up with a larger tank down the road (10'x4'x2'), so I want to get something large enough to do the job with my current system and large enough to go with the next tank whenever that may happen.

I have been looking at the pacific coast chiller 1 HP unit, but I don't know of anyone that has one to get some feedback. I know a few people that have other brands, but nothing bigger than 1/3HP.

So, how big is your chiller? How many HP? Brand? How much did it set you back? Where was the cheapest place to get it? What do you use as a controlelr to turn it on and off? Any imput in the 3/4HP and up department would be greatly appreciated.

I lived in Dade Co. for 5 years and hated it, loathed it after moving here, untill getting into reefing. Now I realize the places I lived and freinds I could grab many a good coral for my tank. No fear of getting busted and quite cheaper then lfs's. Hind sight always is 20/20. Man I'll miss ya you've had good advice and help. But I can't wait to get that green slimer tomorrow evening I'm all giddy. I won't be able to get the other acro, due to money but I do want the slimer still.

I have a 1/2hp and it's oversized for my tank. I wish I had an aquarium that required a 3/4hp chiller.

Glen:

Good luck. That is easier said than done. I wish you luck though. If I had the know how I would do it too.

Too bad that thread doesn't have the pictures anymore. I remember it when it came out. Very nice.

I've worked with Aqualogic (San Diego CA) chillers and heat pumps ranging from 1-4 hp and everywhere in between. The new temp controller that comes with it keeps the temp within 1 C. All of mine are outside and during the summer chill the water down 15 C below ambient so they definetly get the job done. The only source I know is Aquatic Eco-systems. Aqualogic themselves are a good company and are really helpful. Another you might checkout is Aquanetics they make a pretty small heat pump in the 3/4 hp range which is, from what I hear, pretty difficult to do. They are up there in price but can maintain the exact temp you want, either hot or cold. I use them in experimental systems and love them. They include the same digital controller as the Aqualogic.

I haven't looked in two or so years, so that would be news to me. They had a great heat pump but a lousy business so it wouldn't suprise me.
