I'm looking to upgrade my lights for my 54 gal bowfront corner tank. I currently have a 48" CSL smartlamp that I sawed in half (originally on a 55 gal rectangular tank). So it's really two-24" sections. The problem is it doesn't quite fit right and I want to upgrade to MH lights anyway. What configuration seems to work best with one of these tanks? It seems to me a 24" x 12" hood will over hang in some spots, like my two 24"sections do??? What can you recommend as to the best manufacturer also? I like CSL but they're out of business now. Thanks for your help.

Pennywise,
Just want to keep this alive - I don't have an answer but I am going to upgrade to a bowfront in a couple of weeks and also have been puzzling over the lighting. I have VHOs but want to move to MH also.

Come-on surely someone out there has MH on a corner tank?!

Well, I also have a new corner 92G tank and have been unable, so far, to find answers. Hello Lights has a 24" light with a 175 watt MH and Actinic 03 bulbs. I believe the light can be hung (pendant), at least that is how i read it, but could be wrong. I have no idea what actinic 03 means.

I'm writing here not because I know what Im doing - CAUSE I DONT - but hoping that somebody may use this information to figure out what to do and tell me. Unfortunately I'm looking for a 250W Double Ended and Hello Lights doesnt sell that.

Good Luck

I would think somekind of MH pendant hanging over the tank.

I was gonna say the same thing, but it seemed to obvious  IMO, if you could find a 400W fixture that would work out great.

Thanks guys - The handing pendant would work but how would I do this in my living room and make it look good? Or are you suggesting just hanging a pendant inside the canopy somehow? I am going to great lengths to put all of the noise making equipment in the basement, get a tank that matches the room etc... first class all the way... I don't really want to have a 400 watt spot light shining in the corner of the room - mounting it in a canopy will at least keep it from lighting everything else besides the aquarium.

I wrote all-glass and they did not have any suggestions (the good news is they did write back). I also wrote Icecap about perhaps putting different sized lights on my 660 ballast (2- 48"VHO in front, a 36 ", then maybe a 24" in back) and the ballast will do that (they also wrote back and were helpful).

I think the answer is just to get the tank and figure out how to mount the light with some type of custom supports or bracket... It's just that I am somewhat lazy and was hoping somebody else had already done the hard work...

Thanks Shellshocked
