If it's cryptocaryon irritans, QT and Copper. Leave the main tank alone for 28 days (alone meaning, don't put any fish in it). After 28 days of no hosts for the cryptocaryon irritans, they die after 24 hours.
All the best,

FORGET COPPER!

Yep.
Copper is soooooooooo 1987!! :D
Seriously, copper is like fish chemo, and there really isn't a need for it if things are done properly.

Sorry for being out dated... but it totally worked/works for me. 'Got some healthy/happy/content/ eating fish with no issues.
Just curious, how do you prevent amyloodinium (SP?), if/when you get them from a LFS?
Thanks,

I think the root of the problem is that he is adding new fish right after the old fish died in the tank with hundreds of cysts on them....the cysts drop off, develope and give birth to a few hundred thousand cryppies that swim out and infect the new fish he just put in, which is already stressed out at being in a new tank. Furthermore, even if he does wait a few weeks for the ich to die down before adding any more fish, that bullet proof cardinal of his is almost certainly harboring a few cysts at any given time, probably in the gills because they are the only tissue soft enough on a cardinal for ich to be happy in; so in the long run he will always have this ich in his tank, clearly a very virulent strain because of how quickly it has killed pretty easy to keep fish.

I think he should remove all fish from the tank (the cardinal is the only one right?) and QT them in hyposalinity while the tank remains fishless for well over a month. Then re-introduce the cardinal and use the QT to watch new fish before adding them to the main tank.

IMO, as long as that cardinal is in there, he's in trouble.......but if it's too hard to catch the cardinal, wait a few weeks before adding another fish and when you do, make sure you QT it and also make sure you buy only easy to keep fish that are fairly ich resistant, since you now know your tank harbors the infection.

GOOD LUCK! :D

just as a stautus report, i did catch the cardinal that first day pretty easily cuz its used to me and i put in a QT i dropped the salinitydown to 1.009 over the period of 2 days doing the drip method. doesnt seem to look stressed but not eating yet maybe cuz of the small tank compared to the 55 gal.

Adding a UV sterilizer before you put the fish back in the tank will help reduce the number of cysts floating around and a cleaner shrimp wouldn't be a bad idea either.

I am guessing this is a fish only tank or was fish only for quite some time??
