Okay, first.... Get you mind out of the gutter!!

I read a few days ago (can't remember where) that you shouldn't put a glass covers on your tank, due to the lighting gets diffused by the cover thus not letting the full strength of the lights into your tank?

Any thoughts?

Ive got a glass cover over my tank with 220watts of PC lighting sitting on top of it. It doesnt seem to diffuse too much light. I havent had any problems. I just wipe the glass down monthly to get rid of salt creep.

I have gone both ways......get your mind out of the gutter, lol.

I used to have The thickest acrylic that Lowes had for sale covering 75% of the tank-all protecting my CSL MH/PC retro. The lights and humidity eventually warped it though and I trashed it and went topless. Going Topless caused excessive salt spray to get on my lights and reflector, excessive evaporation occurred, and in home pollutants including bugs attracted to the lights got into the water. I am now 99% covered by standard AGA glass tops and love it. Evaporation is way down, virtually no pollutants, and can not see with my naked eye any loss of light.

Jonhs120: That's what I was worried about... "in home pollutants, bugs, etc." getting into the tank.

Thanks to both of you for putting my mind at ease.

Looks like I'm keeping my top on!

:)
