I now know that adding fishes to a reef tank requires more research than adding fishes to a fresh water tank. Benefactor of my ignorance has been my LFS but I do get 20% off the next fish when I return one. I now have a Tomato Clown and a Royal Gramma. I am thinking of getting a small ( 2” ) Yellow Tang, will it out grow my 45 Gal tank too quickly ?

What other fishes can anyone suggest ?

My tank is only 3 months old so I cannot have bottom feeders like a Mandarin.

What are the dimensions of the tank? I think you'll find most people here will recommend against a tang in any tank under 4' long.

Also, the mandarin is a pod eater and probably not a great choice for a small tank (unless you have a larger refugium with a big pod population).

There are lots of fish to choose from that would be OK in that size tank with your clown and gramma. Some that come to mind are the orchid dottyback, some of the smaller wrasse species, smaller basslets that don't closely resemble the gramma (ie. chalk bass, yellow assessor, etc.), gobies, blennys, cardinals, etc.

I'll move this to the GRD forum so you can get some experienced feedback...
