I plan on building a live rock wall on one side of my tank. I was wondering if anyone has a suggestion on where to get flat or plate live rock. I want rock about 1" thick enough to cover about four square feet. I know about the normal online stores but all have normally shaped and sized rocks. Perhaps I could do a special request order... Anyone have a suggestion?

I have about 60lbs of caribbean LR from etropicals, there are some good flat, shelf pieces, but it is mostly elkhorn coral skeletons, which can be broken into various flat pieces. it might be a waste of money though as I don't know if you'd be able to use every piece. I remember seeing some sites list shelf rock, it was usually a little more than standard rock, but this was last fall and I don't know if sites do that anymore

I just saw on exoticfish.com they have plate rock and shelf rock. I don't know exactly how flat these are, but you may want to call them and see if they have what you want

If you have time and patience you could make your own. I just finished sculpting 100lbs of live rock with portland cement and Southdown sand. I love the rock - better shapes than you get from the wild, complete control over the shapes, and cheaper than 11 cents a pound. Of course you have to cure it for a couple of months and then it will take a few months to cover with coraline. Do check out argocrete articles on www.garf.org.
