Hey guys... I had a very healthy royal gramma before and one day I looked in the tank and it was MIA. It's VERY hard to see behind my tank because of how it's built in a cabinet system, but when I checked I may have seen Mr. Fishy dead and dried out....BUT, maybe it wasn't. There's very poor lighting and it's hard to see stuff. Another possibility is that a crab ate it. I had a Red Mithrax crab in there before, which definately did take a nip at the tail fin of my clown....maybe it just caught and ate the royal gramma?

I dunno, I want another Royal Gramma but I'm scared it'll be a jumper outa my open surface tank :|

Never knew of them to be jumpers, sounds like from SM's response they can. But my first bet would be the crab, you know the RG's threat response tactic- I'll open my mouth real wide and make myself look all ferocious, to which the crab was probably laughing as it moved in for some fresh sushi ala cart. That's the scenario I'd imagine.

especially because like RG's generally do, he always hid in a cave of LR. Recipe for ambush

I just pulled another Mithrax crab out a few days ago and put him in a plastic cup while i decided what to do with him. He died yesterday. RIP fawker! I hate bubble algae, but I'm NEVER gonna risk one of those crabs in my tank again!

My Royal Gramma which I've had for 7 years has never attempted a jump. Mine has gone MIA for a while but he was just hiding out in a new cave.

alright, I know some can have different personalities, but 7 years is pretty convincing  Another RG is def on the "To Buy:" list!

I had a yellow headed jawfish that did jump though. He landed on the floor at the back of the tank. By the time I noticed it was too late. :(

I have had a gramma jump out. After that what I did was use nylon screening from home depot and stapled it covering the openings to my hood including the fan. Now I dont have to worry about anything jumping out or getting choped to pieces by the fan.
