Hi Guys.

Well, I was just ready to paint my reef aquarium background with a blue paint but I read that some people preffer black and I imagined it in black and I like it more than blue but I'm not sure .... the question is; I have a fresh water tank too and I don't know if It will look nice in black too, is it natural? what do you guys preffer on both tanks ... black or blue? I'm not sure and I really need your opinion.

Thanks.

It really is just a matter of taste. I have two reefs and one is painted a really dark blue and the other is painted a brighter blue. I like blue but I am sure black looks fine too. It should get covered in coraline algea soon enough that I really wont matter what color you paint it.

Ditto - I've got one in black and one in dark blue. After a while, you can't tell which is which.

If you need a vote to knock you off the fence...then go with dark blue! :D

I use black regardless. I also let algae grow on it, looks nice imo. Do this in my nano and fw plant tank.

Well my father has owned a sign shop for thirty years and one day i decided to use the viynl material that you make leteering for trucks ect on the back of my tank. It comes in as many colors as you can imagine , it will only cost you about 10 dollars(depending on tank size) You can have the exact mesurments cut to fit the back of your tank, The stuff sticks on like a sticker but looks as good if not better than paint . And its alot safer IMO. If you decided to change color you can peel it off and put a new one on. No bubbling of paint ect.

Howdy,

I had a black back on my first 55 gallon tank, and it drove me crazy. I loved the way the colors of the fish and corals was really offset by the dark background. What drove me crazy was the way the black would also show off any algae, whether it was corraline or just the regular nuisance stuff.

I would get my tank wall all clean, and sit down to admire it and there would be a few spots I had missed. It drove me mad. So, I now use blue backed tanks, either lighter or darker.

Good luck,

Scott.
