Hi folks,

Well i'm taking the plunge (sorry, I could'nt resist), I'm setting up a 240 gal. reef. I've been reefing for a long time but never gone this big! I'm looking for equipment suggestions, I would like to make this as automated as possible. I really want to do this right!!!!!

Thanks for your help.[/b]

Lucky you! :P

Hmmm. Equipment wise, I'm a big fan of Iwaki for pumps, Euro-reef for skimmers, and Aqualine or Sunlight Supply for lights. Get a nice calcium reactor like MTC's ProCal for automated Ca delivery. An Aquacontroller 2 is also a great way to automate everything into a centralized system, and I highly recommend the controller. If you have room for a freshwater resevoir, a dosing pump is a great way to top off evaporation. Otherwise, you may have to run a R/O unit to the tank controller by a float switch. I prefer dosing pumps by far. Hope that gives you a direction ;)

Aquareef,
I have a question for you... How much room will you have for equipment? If you have to cram everything under a stand, you have to take size into consideration. I know I'm having to deal with this issue right now. However, if you can have a dedicated room for equipment (it doesn't have to be very large), you can spread out and make maintenace issues easier. Plus you have more room for more equipment like a huge sump and refugium! I would love to have a room to grow some mangroves or at least just increase water volume.

As far as equipment, I like Len's suggestions also. Look at MyReef Creations as well. I went with one of their skimmers and calcium reactors. Good luck and take your time!

Get a big surge device if you have a fish room!

I second Len's suggestion of a dosing pump. No need to worry about moving parts sticking, overflowing tanks, pumps running dry, etc. I'm away from my tank for two weeks at a time and I don't have to worry about this stuff.

the room is about 15x10, here's the kicker it's going to be in the front room so i'm going to have to have it self contained (the equipment) in some sort of cabinetery.

You could still build cabinets around it (like an entertainment center) so you could fit a taller skimmer and more equipment and just make the area below the tank for a sump.
