so now that we had a few warm and humid days how many of you noticed that your tank temps he risen ? mine jumper to 82 degree's inbetween thurs and friday. i went and bought another fan for my canopy and a fan to put on my sump. hopefully this will combat my het problems. anyone else with idea's other than a chiller that they are using ? would love to find a way to put a temp guage in sump to turn that fan on and off as needed.

Rick,

RANCO make controllers to be able to do this - once you're temp goes to a certain level it kicks on your fans - its an expensive option - but an effective one

What I do is put the fan on the same timer as my lights, this way the decrease in temp from the fan keeps up with the increase in temp from my lights.

If the lights aren't even on and your temp rises, you'll need to drop the ambient room temperature or get a chiller.

I have found that just running a room AC to drop the humidty works wonders - try that as well.

Hope that helps,

House

my ReefKeeper 2 also does it... maybe it's an excuse to buy a new controller :) You can have the lights auto shut off if temps reach a certain point, or you can use a temp controller feature... X outlet will turn on if temps reach above X and off when they're below X.

My tank temps have risen quite a bit... my A/C in the house is on the fritz right now so a guy is coming monday to find the leak and replace the freon. I've switched my light schedule for the time being... my tank used to come on a 11am and off at 11pm now I come in at 3:30pm and off at 2am. Cooler temps at night. So far so good with the temps being stable at 80. My tank did reach 84 and the lights turned off 2 days in a row.

ty jim. i thought about buying one of the ranco's. thought of just turning fan on when i come home for lunch { sump fan } that way it cool's when it is warmest out. i havent put air conditioners in yet. i really dont get much heat from the t5's though. its more of warmth in the house that is going to be the problem till i ut air conditioners back in. and i think my next piece of equipment i buy is going to be a ref keeper or a ac jr

I feel pretty wasteful running the ac all the time, but the truth is that for us, running the ac all summer also helps with controlling allergies, keeps cats happy, keeps tank at same temp, and also helps preserve the things that would get damaged from being humid, like carpeting, etc...

Good luck!

With all these positives, you still feel running an AC all the time is wasteful

The problem is if you turn on the AC before you leave to work and leave it on all day, you have no way of controlling temps. Granted you wont have that problem with a 110g. But when i had my 20g FW tank in my room, i would put the AC on at night and every morning when i looked at the temp of my tank it was 70, everytime. Thats when i realized that my AC was set to 70 degrees.... if i set it to 65 my cories would have been fish-cicles
