I've been thinking on getting one of those lovely guys and was wondering if someon might have some insight into their world of husbandry (righty :wink: ). Any things I should know about? size tank, care, lighting, foods, setup, ect...

Have you any idea what species you're looking to get ? Some are only 2" or 3" while others can grow up to about 9" so it's sorta important before I can say what size tank. While these are sedentary fish they are messy so good filtration or skimming is a must. Lighting is really of no importance so high light is not needed. Most of these fish when first aquired require live foods normally small fish ( not freshwater ) but can be weaned to meaty foods such as pieces of shrimp, squid, silversides, etc. Lastly do not keep with small tankmates i.e. fish, snails, crabs, shrimp as they will be consumed.

Do sharks swallow license plates ? ;-)
Depending on the species the larger Anglers are certainly capable of eating snails though in the Ocean their main diet is bony fish.
If they think it's food and they can get it in their mouth ( their mouths are huge compared to their body size ) it can be swallowed.

Anglers will eat eachother...theyve been known to eat lionfish as well as others...they can easily eat their own size...if you plan to keep these with other tank mates, might want to keep it well fed.?

No not really.
Bones and shells are easily processed by the enzimes in the fishes digestive system and what ever nutrition is there is utilized by the fish and the rest is passed out as waste. It's just like any other animal that eats it prey whole.

They are great fish, but are best kept in a species tank. They are notorious for eating fish bigger than themselves which can lead to their death. I have had mine for a year in a eclipse six gallon. I plan to move him to a ten gallon later this year. He wont eat frozen despite all my efforts, so he gets ghost shrimp and mollies that have been aclimated to salt water and are gut loaded with marine algae. Mine is a A. pictus which will stay rather small. He eats about 2 mollies a week or 4 ghost shrimp and one molly. Here is a picture of him. Isnt he adorable?

ive never owned one but have done my research on frogfish..such interesting creatures and i agree with them for the most part being in a species tank...thats a nice specimen you have btw...

They are great fish, but there seems to be issues with keeping the wartskins long term. They seem to die suddenly for unknown reasons.

Of the ones I have kept, none have eaten snails.

Don't know the species name, but can describe it to ya. I know that's probably not going to help but I can't find anything on the web about them to identify 'em.

This one at my store is 5-6" long, very hairy sargassam looking, mostly a pale grey with brownish red splotches, two or three pink coraline lookin spots close to the face and other than that look just like righty's predator winning photo. Although much more "hairy" and dirty looking. looks just like a piece of greyish brown rock.
