Hey guys, just wanted to report my experience with you. That Fish Place in Lancaster, PA has always been kinda my LFS. They're unbeatable for prices and selection on dry goods. Their live fish have always been kinda below par, however. They just threw a bunch of different species in tons of 40gal. tanks, and there were many fish that appeared unhealthy.

Well, over the past few months they were redesigning everything in their fish room. Now the freshwater fish are still in those 40 gal. tanks, but the marine fish are in such a better environment! They're replaced those 40gal's with tons and tons of various sized acrylic tanks. This allows them to go species specific. Some tank with popular fish such as yellow tangs, ocellaris, and damsels are in a larger tank together, but some more speciallized ones like purple tangs and harlequin tusks(sp?) are by themselves in like 2gal partitions. Heck they even stock sharks now too.... (if you can get passed the $500 price tag! )The fish appear SO healthy compared to what they used to be. Also, they now have all of their corals and clams in a HUGE tank that's about 6' wide x 30' long x 1' deep. Hanging over the tanks are many many halides. Their selection is at least twice as what it used to be. Supposedly a major filtration upgrade was also part of the project.

If you're ever in the area of Lancaster, PA, it's definately worth the trip, especially if you need a lot of dry goods. LiveFishDelivery.com is the online supplier of fish from That Fish Place, so obviously I can now say I recommend fish from that source too.

I was there this past weekend and saw no such setup. The back area that used to contain pond fish/supplies was curtained off. The whole invert room was torn apart and they were painting in there. All the corals were still ina six foot 150 gal? tank. Not only that but 150$ for a brown acropora.

I'll be impressed when they change there supplier for fish and inverts. There live stock frankly has always been troublesome and staff is terrible. IMO if they keep things running with a bunch of high schoolers they will never have a good operation. I will never buy live stock there unless,

A: They start getting sps frags from ORA and such not just broken wild colonys.

B: When their pricing drops back to where it used to be. I used to go in there and feel like I got a deal now I feel like I've been robbed. In the last few years there pricing has gone up to where they match my The hidden reef in phillys prices. I'd rather shop the hidden reef any day of the week.

C: After their new setup has passed the test of time. Go in a few months and I bet you'll see the same sick conditions they usually have. If they have a HUGH coral tank now then it was stocked in the last week and same goes for the fish as the cubed partitioned tanks had discus in them a week ago and their stock on satl water fish was down to a dozen or so tanks.

IMO if your in the area The Hidden reef is the way to go. I have never had a problem with the stock from the Hidden reef and their pricing is the same as That Pet Place for the most part.

Not to anything against you Jandree maybe I just have some thing against the "big box stores" like that pet place. But as I said I was there last week as my wife loves to stop and eat at Fundruckers on the way!

Just as an FYI, I was just there yesterday and it was their anniversary weekend, so I'm sure they just opened it up for the first time yesterday. I'm trying to be optimistic about it, but yet I do realize that it might very well go back down the tubes again. Time will tell :?

btw, I know what you mean about the high schoolers! You def need to know your own $hit before buying anything because their baggers know nothing. I'll admit that's an obvious downside to the place

Ahh, yes I think I might have gotten a flyer for their anniversary. Did they have any guest speakers? I know they had Julian Sprung a few times.

Did they have alot in stock as far as corals go. What about any SPS frags? I am off tomorrow so maybe I'll go check it out.

There's all that went on for the weekend. I didn't look too closely at the corals because it was PACKED in there on Saturday plus I'm not in the market for any cause of my NO lighting, but I can tell you that coral tank I described was filled with corals and a few clams.

Email this address for information on any species availability... they'll get back to you promptly with if and how many they have in stock - [email protected]
