Has anyone sucessfully kept these in a reef aquarium. I think they are awesome.

LFS had (now mine) one that was in great shape, and was eating frozen brine. Usually trusted LFS owner told me that all wrasses are reef safe (marginally true at best). This clown is about the size of my pinky, so I am not too worried about it now. My crabs and snails are pretty safe.

What I am wondering is if when my wife and I move in the next two years and I have to breakdown and move the reef, should plan to return him to the reef or should a start a large FOWLER after the move? (hopefull he lives this long!)

BTW - 90 galllon (48" X 24" X 18") w/ 100lbs+ LR, 1-2" sandbed
Mostly softies (colt, misc leathers), zoos
2 LPS (Alveopora and Frogspawn)
Only other fish are 2 young O. Clowns and an orange scorpion blenny.

Yup I've kept them. Your sand bed won't be deep enough though. These tend to tunnel in the sand at night and will make a mess in a reef tank. While they are reef safe as far as corals they will knock them over or spray sand all over them. They will consume snail, crabs, urchins, stars, pods, etc. Once adapted they'll virtualy eat anything, flake food, algae sheets, etc. but it's prefered you feed them shredded meaty foods such as shrimp, squid, mussels, etc. Also they grow fast; your little guy will be 6" to 8" in a year and up to 15" in two years. It also hurts like heck when they bite you which can be often because at feeding time they'll go into a frenzy. :)

Good LUCK! They're slippery ones, fo' sho'. That's actually one of my favorite fish for a fish only system. Not at all aggressive (in my experience) as, say, Lunare wrasses.

Luckily my wife is very into a FO tank (she wants tangs or angels, and "at least" 125 gallons for them to enjoy :D )

I am going to see what happens with him. If he can make it in the tank for a year or two that would be cool, he is too cool to return to the LFS (Unless he will keep it in his display tanks since he feels it is reef safe  ).

He is a great fish now, doing well! I'll just play it by ear from now on.

Any if things go bad, he shouldn't be any harder to catch than a damsel!

LOL! Ok, I won't try to tell you different. :P

Seriously, if you need to catch him, I wish you the best of luck. ;)
