Ok...we're thinking about what kind of fish for our 90gal reef and this is what we like:

Regal Angel
Sohal Tang
Hippo Tang

We would prob go with another kind of tang/angel but my husband wants a fish with beautiful colors. I told him that sometimes it doesn't work out that way.

We already have a coral beauty, scooter blenny and a citron goby who live in a 6 gal nano in my kitchen and are getting ready to join the 2 tomato clowns in the 90 gal.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!!

The Angel is not a good Choice as it may nip at some hard and Soft Coral and Clams. If you are going to put both the Tangs in that tank they might be a little cramped. Go with a Kole tang or a Convict Tang for the choice of the tangs. Also maybe go with some Anthsis the can be Colorful. Maybe Someone else might have more suggustions for you. :D

First, I hope you are planning to quarantine the new fish, yes?
Good.
I would steer away from the regal angel. If you get a good specimen, you might get lucky. However I usually wouldn't recommend that fish unless you had a much larger tank. The fish is less stressed, and acclimates better to captive life in a large tank. This is a fish for someone with years of experience keeping large angels, and for a large tank.
Hippo tang. Very senstive, and they don't ship well. You may go through a couple before you get one that acclimates. Then again you may get lucky the first time. The do need space however.
I would recommend something hardy and easy to deal with, like a zebrasoma species. Yellow tang, etc.
Personaly, I'd much rather see a group of small fish in a 90 gallon reef that have an expanse to live in, rather than cramming the largest fish I could get away with in such a tank and end up with crowded conditions. But that's me. As such, I like C. argi, or the pygmy angel as their called. They don't have garrish colors but they're small and hardy as hell.
Some of the most beautiful fish are also some of the worst choices many times. We learn to deal with this. :)

...that is true unless you can *afford* a Clarion Angelfish; very beautiful and among the most hardy.

Yes, I agree with the above. Also be aware that tangs can sometimes bring unwanted parasites to your tank more so than some other fish. Extra QT time for them is always a good idea. I would only put a tang in a larger tank, over 100gals. at least, because they get so darn big! Big fish= big waste! They also do better with a lot of swimming room. I also would not recommend an angel in a reef. Always risky. Could nip your corals to death.

What is a yellow banded butterfly? I've been looking for one on line to see what it looks like. Is there another name for it?

Thanks!
