I'd put a skimmer on no matter what. I personally like the extra O2 in the water.

browncj7,

Like Jim, I've never viewed a skimmer as an absolute necessary tool in reefkeeping. I actually prefer not to use a skimmer for my reef and have done so for well over a decade. Maintaining a sensible bioload, quality LR, shallow sand bed, monthly 10% water changes, and occasional carbon usage is key.

I'd only recommend going skimmerless if you feel that your advanced enough and ca quickly recognize the nuances of a reeftank. If not, then a skimmer will provide a much larger room for error.

That is exactly why I recommend them. It is good insurance for people that have expensive animals in there tank.

I wussed out....
I did not like the looks of the hang on skimmers, and since this tank is in a guest room where we do not see it all the time, I decided on not spending the money.

I think I am going to do Mollies, they are almost saltwater right?

Thanks for your help eveyone. Glad to see some of you reefers outside the sump!
