Hello:

I needed to know which of these two products (E.S.V. Freeze dired marina phyto and Cyclopeeze Whole freeze dried) would be better to feed my 120 gal reef tank, considering that I can not get easily any live cultures where I live like DT´s or marine culture.

I have 4 leathers, about 6 hard corals, 2 clams, 2 gorgonians 2 sponges a few polyps, hammer, grogspawns, few mushrooms, etc

I also have 2 clown fish, a blue surgeon, coral beauty and a r-grama.

Has anybody mixed these two products to feed the reef tanks??

Thanks in advance for replying

Cyclopeeze is excellent for your reef.

It disolves into very tiny pieces. I am sure all the filter feeders benefit from it. The fish probably get a little irritated trying to fill themselves up. It's would be sorta like eating all you can eat crab legs in a restuartant. You just get tired of eating long before you get full. ;)

I feed it to my tank once or twice a week. Sometimes less.

The 2 products are very different, cyclopeeze being much bigger than phytoplankton. Frozen cyclopeeze is great, although I haven't tried the dried. I would only feed phyto if I had species that depended on it, like sea apples, small tridacna clams, etc. Corals mostly don't feed on phytoplankton.

ESV phyto is excellent, but to get it to be the correct "phyto" size you need to get it fairly fresh (not sitting on the LFS shelf for a year) and mix it up in a blender as described in the directions

I feed both of these twice a week, and feed mysis shrimp twice a week, and that's it. Everything in concert works extremely well.

Peace,

Thanks for replying...

Since both products have different sizes and I have gotten very good recommendations and i also have a few fish, I will try to use them both.

I hope this is the best feeding I can give my corals given the fact that I can not buy any live cultures because of shipping limiations...

I¨ll post any results...

Thanks Again...

As long as your lighting is good, supplementing with those two foods should be a great thing for your animals...

Peace,

Chip
