Interesting articles. However, I will need to read more than just these overviews in order to be convinced that the result is significant and reproductible, and that the technology is transferable to home aquarium.

Any of these study appeared on Nature or Science magazine yet?

whilst good for the corals, would this not mess with the sensory receptors of sharks and rays? I thought people grounded tanks for this reason. Or does the sheer vastness of the ocean negate this?

Brown estimates the amount of electricity used in a week is equal to burning a single 60-watt bulb for a month.
I think the purpose in grounding isn't to necessarily eliminate "stray voltage" as this type of level could be referred to as being.. - I think its meant to ground out much larger instances (such as massive powerhead failure, a broken heater glass, those sorts of occurences..)

I was about to comment on this line. Why don't they just say it as "the amount of electricity used is equal to a 250-watt light bulb." Why mix the unit with month and week, does the audience of the article not able to comprehend anything more than 100Watts or something? That's why I try to not be too serious when I first read an article on the Associate Press.

I know. But at least they should hire some decent scientific writer and scientific illustratist that can do a half-ass job of writing and drawing diagrams.

times are tough and budgets are tight. we should be grateful they didnt outsource the writer and have it written in hindi with illustrations done in crayon.
