I just tested the TDS of rainwater here in Orlando and was surprised to get a reading of 9.

Anyone else out there done this? Is this a typical reading? I imagined it would be higher for some reason.

My tap water here gives a reading of 139,,, I get a reading of 1 or 2 after it's been through my 3-stage RO/DI thingy.

Rain water is essentially distilled water that got contaminated on its way down from the cloud. Most of the TDS in it is due to sulfur and CO2. If we do a good job in keeping the air clean, we can run this hobby with nothing but rainwater. :(

(Think about it, rain == topoff for the ocean. Majority of rainwater goes into ocean directly without touching the land )

TDS doesnt include gases like CO2

There's nothing they can do here in socal to make the air clean while Im still alive.
There's all the holy baloney about electric cars, but as long as big business still controls Mr. Schwartzerwhatsis and the gov't, they will be still pumping noxious waste into our air. My .02

Yes, CO2 is a gas, but as vertikul19 mentioned, it will be an ion when dissolved in seawater.

The issue with conductivity instrumentation like TDS meter is that the value you see is influenced by many factors. CO2 is the major component that increase the conductivity of ultrapure water, such as RO/DI and distilled/rainwater, but most hobby TDS meter will not be able to detect it.
