I set up my 90 Megaflow and I'm disapointed that the draining water is so loud. It sounds like a running faucet. I'm running a Mag 9.5 return from my sump and I don't believe it's overpowering it. Any suggestions? Thanks

I was wrong... The pump is overpowering the drain pipe. And by the way it is a durso. I throttled back the pump with the ball valve and its 90% better. Unfortunately I'm not getting the flow I had previously. I'm curious as to how others overcame this issue. Thanks, Bill

I haven't seen a Megaflow in person yet. Not sure what the differences are. Contact AGA to see what they say. A correctly built Durso Standpipe will not reduce the volume of water you can process in any way. If anything it can handle a bit more because it can make use of a siphoning effect with smaller vent holes.

I have the same tank. The megaflow is only rated to 600GPH. I had a lot of noise coming from the drain tube between that tank and the sump, it would fill with air and gargle. I added 2 45 angles to the drain line and now its very quiet.

Just a quickie to add...regardless of how you set up the drain system, they always make more noise for the first few days until a bacterial slime coat starts to form inside the piping. HTH

It really depends on where the noise is coming from as to what the solution will be. That being said, I struggled with noise for 4 or 5 months trying everything in the book. I finally set my Megaflow up as noted in this thread http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=344892.

Although its not a conventional solution, It has worked wonders. My tanks overflow is absolutely silent. It also completely eliminated my microbubble issues.

I've been running like this for a while now with no issues. Its worth a read :).

Do you have a valve on your drain line? If so, clamp it down slowly and see if your noise goes away. If so, maybe you'd want to give the above method a shot.[/url]

I'm not sure how a 9.5 would overpower the drain pipe??? We have run up to the 36 here with no problems.

Overpowering the overflow would entail a flood no? I dont think thats what was happening. Just noisy.
