Hello all, i live way down south in new orleans. I am setting up a 90g system, and am about ready to get my lr and sand. To make a long story short, no supply of downsouth or similar product locally, and i am not paying to get it shipped from somewhere else. My lfs wants 99c a lb for live sand, and seeing as i want a 3-4 inch deep sand bed that is going to cost me a nice chunk of change. Then my cheapness sense clicked in, why cant i scoop a nice ice chest full of perfectly live sand from the gulf of mexico ( a few hundred feet of the beach to lessen the pollution factor) next time i go fishing. I've heard of people using sea water from the gulf, and it actually being beneficial. Questions, comments, is this legal?

The LFS probably gets the sand from a hundred feet off the beach too. If I lived near a gulf of mexico beach, I would do it.
