I just bought a rose anemone three days ago i have a 150gal reef with 356watts of PCs. I have fed it krill twice since i got it and it took them both times. I heard if there tentacles are long their hungry and they'll shorten or bubble tip when there satisfied. What else should I feed him and what can I do to make him split?

Bubble tips are a function of light, not feeding. They'll usually develop them in high light. You can feed bubble tips just about anything--squid, krill, shrimp, formula foods, etc. Any meaty seafood will do.

There's no real concensus on the best way to get a split. Lots of time a transient stress--like a large water change or a rock dropping on the BTA--will cause a split. It's not something I would try to do on purpose, however. If you focus on keeping it well fed, well lit, and in a good amount of flow it will eventually split on its own; no need to force it.

I have found that the bubble tips are a function of luck. My rose is directly under a 400w 10k Ushio; been there for a few years w/out any bubble tips. :( I suggest feeding meaty foods that don't involve shells since they're not so good at digesting it. It's an easy way to avoid a big stinky anemone dump for lack of better terms.

Let it get established and feed it frequently. It should divide on ya, it's just a matter of time.

I think that Bubble Tips show depending on the anemone. Some appear from feeding and some from light. I do not think that there is any factor that will make them bubble except individuality.

Heavy feeding has been known to get an anemone to split. But I found that the shock of a salinity swing works best. If you can get your salinity to swing from a 1.024 to a 1.027 over four or five days I would expect a reaction and a split is usually the end result. That is how I got my BTAs to split numerous times.

I've heard of people slicing the anemone with a razor and the BTA split. It may work, but it is not something I would try.
