I have always wanted to get one of these but I cannot justify the price. I have been waiting for over a year or so hoping one day I would see this brand on sale somewhere but guess not.

I just can't believe the cheapest one is nearly 50.00 bucks. Since the prices havent come down much I can only assume that aquarist are more than happy to buy them at the current pricing but why?

Please tell me if I'm off my rocker, I just dont see paying 50 bucks for a float cleaning magnet.....

I buy the biggest size for like 30 bucks? There are more expensive models out there for $100 or so, but Mag Float brand is fairly cheap and it works fine.

I'm talking about the brand "algae free" and the models piranha, hammerhead, etc. They look to be of awesome quality and finish and maybe thats why there soo damned expensive. I just don't want to get another magfloat but looks like I will have to just because cost.

I also have a mag float but it easily gets debris stuck in it and scratches up my acrylic. I also like the KM scraper but don't always want to put my hands in the tank and would prefer to be lazy :D

These types of cleaners use expensive magnetic metals that are designed for additional strength. Mag-float is a great affordable brand, but if you handle an Algae Free with a Mag-float, you'll immediately notice they're designed to vastly different standards. Same thing when you first use a Tunze.

I have one of the monster magnets, forget the brand, but my favorite is a 4 inch wide single edge razor blade with a paint scraper handle.

I have combined the Magnavore 4 with the Mag-Float 350. I use the internal half of the Mag-Float and I use the Outer half of the Magnavore 4. The Mag-Float was not strong enough for my 450-gallon Oceanic, and retriving the internal half of the Magnavore from the bottom of a 36" deep tank was a pita. I got to say this combination works great. Especially going around corners. BTW this is very similar to the Hammerhead float, which may be infringing on the Mag-Float patent according to the Mag-Float people.(per personal communication)

Well it is true that you get what you pay for. I just wanted to make sure.

If algae free is the porsche of mag cleaners then I guess the price is worth it.

>...If algae free is the porsche of mag cleaners ...

Actually, the stronger the magnet, the slower it moves... It is the Roll Royce, not Porsche.

<sorry, can't help it>

I use the "Great White" algae free magnet on my 3/4" glass tank and it is worth every penny.

Im sticking with my KM scraper...Im in Dan Conners boat...I dont like sticking my hands in my tank but i also know i get a good clean job with my KM scraper..Not half ass with my mag float..if i had a larger tank with thicker glass i would probably invest in a really good magnet since it would be a PITA sticking hands in the tank..I have a 20gal so my arm doesnt go that deep and i dont need a step stool... enough of my rambling :D
