My LFS had two of these there today. They both had really whiteish looking or kind of faded dorsal fins. They weren't deteriorated or anything just really white. It did not look like fin rot or anything, and it was only on the dorsal. I asked the owner why they were like that and he said it was probably just coloration. Im just wondering if any of you have ever noticed this on an imperator, or if this is some type of sickness or disease. Maybe they're just already transforming into an adult.

How big were they? They start to change at around 4". The main thing to look for with these guys is how they react to their environment. Where they, alert, active, did they approach the glass when you became close, where they fed in front of you and did they take food with gusto ? It's possible they could have a disease but without a pic it's difficult to say.

I have a 4 1/2-5in emporer that is really getting into the color change it does start at the dorsal fin and move down as it goes and it does look yellowish white ad it starts as stated above make sure the fish are healthy (clear eyes and good fins and even breathing) as well as being active and alert they should seem a little curious and not hiding and make sure they eat.
