Ahhhh...this again! <insert various difficult organisms here>

Just do research like the others suggested, then you won't be subjected to such typelashing. We don't go out and buy a dog or cat without researching all of its needs first, do we? We don't go out and buy <insert X here> without at least being familiar with it by some means. Why do coral, fish, etc. have to be different?

This hobby is about as far as possible from an immediate gratification/gotta have it now/impulse buy way of life as possible.

Keep that in mind.

Man, tough deadline today. I see that I have some catching up to do:

What if he had a tank before he knew of this website.

But there are way more sources of information that this (or any other) website. All coral books I read (Fossa, Sprung, Borneman) say that Goniopora should be left in the sea or to the experts... Then there are the local clubs and, if lucky, the LFS (not my case).

(Lord knows you have never erred in regards to your tank)
On the contrary. I just killed a frogspawn. However, it was not due to lack of research or negligence.

Not all goniopora, or according to you "99%" of them pass within the first week of introduction into a reef tank.

You are putting words in my mouth. I didn't say that it will pass within the first week, but that it will pass. Long before its natural lifespan. To me it doesn't make any difference if it lives a week or one year from the moment you get it. You still kill it.

I'm sorry to be rude, but I can't help myself when I see unresponsable aquarists. I think we all suffer because of them. What's worse, is that this guy isn't even the worst of them (the worst, don't bother asking questions on RDO, actually asking questions at all). It's just that I can't get to the worst of them, so I'm picking on this guy. :D I'm sure you can see by looking at the posts that some (most!?) of the persons the replied agree that I'm right of being upset. Maybe this will change your attitude a bit. Then I wasn't rude in vain.

we are not talking My life or death here

I'm sure that this is not how your pets see it. For them is very personal. By the way, do you care about your neighbor's life or death? Your cat's? Where do you draw the line?

If you can really replace it with another coral (frogspawn, hammer, bubble, can be gorgeous and much hardier), please do that: whenever you buy a goniopora you send a signal up the collection chain that there is a market for those corals and more will be collected and killed. Unfortunately, I see lots of them at my LFS, but I think that every vote counts.

All the best,
Mihai

I JUST THREW IT ON MY LAWN IN 95 DEGREE SCORCHING HEAT AND WATCHED IT SUFFOCATE!
*GIGGLING MANIACALLY*

I actually giggled when I read your response, just because it's in my nature to lash out and be sarcastic when I feel everyone is against me. Honestly though, maybe what you need is some high quality fake corals that you can put in your tank and not have to worry about since your so busy? Since they are LIVING creatures! You wouldn't keep plants at home if you couldn't keep them alive right?

Your damn right!! There's nothing worth seeing here!! The place sucks!! Its flat, hot, humid, and floods all the time. Why do you think we didn't get to host the olympics. We'd have the lowest Olympics turn out ever!!!

I'm a displaced Californian! I came here over six years ago because of the cost of living!!

By the way I'm a Guy! The word tenshi in Japanese means Angel, which is my name. Get it. :D
