Hi all. Nice to be back on Reefs.Org. Been hangin' out on other boards for a while.

I am about to install an Aqua Medic Turbo Flotor 1000 Multi (directions were not included). I also had to replace the Aqua Bee pump which didn't work originally. I have new pump (OR1700) on the way from Aqua medic.

I understand the big cylinder part and the lift off top where the gunk collects. There is a flexible tube that I suppose is the inflow pipe from the pump comes up and feeds water to the unit. I think there is a wheel that spins to create bubbles in which organic stuff collects making waste.

OK ... There are two tall, clear PVC columns that go up the side of the large cylinder. There is a big black hang on thing. I assume that they do what they do I am not worried about those parts.

My concern comes with the medium sized plastic vial looking thing with a top on it that has a blue valve of some kind and has about a foot of air tubing attached. What is that for? How do I adjust it?

When I discovered that Aqua Bee did not work, I tried an Italian made Askoll 802 powerhead but it did not push the water high enough up into the collection cup. Just FYI.

I need suggestions for set up from anyone using the Aqua Medic skimmer.

Thank you.

Hey Carolyn, welcome back :)

It's been a while since I've used the Turboflotor, but IIRC that vial with the blue valve is connected to the air intake and used to adjust the amount of air pulled through the skimmer. As you probably know, the Turboflotor is very effective skimmer but is also rather tricky to setup properly. There is a lot of fine tuning involved and takes time to trial and error to get the maximum skimmate.

I never worried much about the vial thing. The important thing is that the other end of the flex hose attaches to the pump creating the mixture of air/water that feeds to the skimmer. Adjustments are made with the black gate valves on the skimmer outlet tubes. It took me alot of tinkering over a few weeks to get an acceptable skimmate. Ever since I got it set up properly it has run hassle free for a couple years now.
