What is this?

Hey all,


These pics of an unknown beach object found their way to me. So before I start looking at references before I get home I thought I would get opinions here. This bone (possibly jaw, perhaps from skull) of something was found on the beach (I was told most likely California) and is about 3 X 4 inches roughly. It looks familiar to me, but I cannot place it. Ideas?

at first I thought some part of a sea turtle, but looking at this page it doesn't seem like anything there...

Sorry about the links. I attached the files. I thought it might be some bone from a turtle also, but could not figure out anything either. Too bad I don't have it in hand to see/feel it.

if its from california it could be some sort of whale vertebrae or something. whale bones are a dime a dozen on the california coastline especially in san pedro/palos verdes area.
