ok so finally im about to get my 120 up and runnin but still havent decided on the lights.

what do you guys think of running 1 150w 14000k MH and 1 250w 10000 k MH?
if i needed more blue i could just run a couple of flourescents on it aswell.

any experience with the two?

Do you want to keep hard corals? (SPS)
Are you in FO or reef?
what is the dimension of your tank. One MH is good for 2'x2'.
If you tank is around 20 inch high, i would suggest 250W to both of it. If you have 1x150 and 1x250 you will see a difference in intensity. I would also choose 2x14000K or you could use 2x10000k with some artinic fluo. its up to you but if i was you, i would choose the same kind of lights to both.

tank is 4x2x2. initially i just intend to keep some soft corals and LPS but eventually venture into SPS, which basically rules out using the 150w i guess becuase there wont be enough light. the 150w are 14000k and the 250w are 10000k so what do ya think?

just tryin to keep things cheap but i guess that wont happen if i have to go with the 250s

Your tank is deep so i would go with 250's.
I personally prefer 14000k and i would put any artinic flou as the 14K are exactly my liking.

We are all try to keep things cheap :P but in this hobby, there is no cheap thing as we always have to do sacrifice to have a healthy tank.

I am changing the lighting on my mixed reef 150 gal to 2x 250 watt MH 20K and 2 x 250 watt 10k. Using XM bulbs the bulbs should only run me about 350$ max per year which isnt so bad. This will give me a great mix of color and hopefully better growth rates.

I would go with atleast 2 x 250 MH and if thats it keep the PAR up by using lower kelvin bulbs and suppliment the color by adding either a 3rd 20K MH or using several 110 watt VHO actincs or 96 watt PC actinics.

On my 90 i have 2 2x250's. Plenty of light. Granted i don't keep corals yet but i have no dark areas. Mightbe the way to go.

I think the 2x250's @ 10,000K supplemented with actinics is the way to go. SPS corals prefer the warmer, lower Kelvin light, as that is, being shallow water species in most cases, what they are most used to.

The bluer light is mostly just for deep-water corals, like LPS and softies.
