Okay, then if you're asking about squid, the answer is still 'no' but if you're asking about cuttlefish, then talk to Righty...he's the expert around here, and I'd defer all cuttle questions to him.
Oh, then the answer is not to stress it, and run a skimmer on a tank with a ceph to deal with the ink when, not if, it happens.
As for keeping it, cuttle ink is pretty viscous so you could suck it up with a baster and put it in a jar. They used to collect the ink by killing the cuttles so the ink was not diluted.
12 is small of S bandensis - I recommend a 18 high minimum. The species that is readily available in the states now is S officianalis and it gets to be 18 inches and needs a 180.
BTW, though they did collect it right from a fresh cuttle, mostly the ink was collected as a powder after the cuttle was dried.
So where might one acquire one of those mini-cuttles you spoke of, senor Righty? Sounds interesting; I think I might convert my 29 into a ceph tank... If I could do, of course.
No where really. They get imported sometimes, but have a dismal survival rate. I am breeding some, and hopefully next year there will be oodles available.
