Hey everyone... so what do you think?

I'm moving soon (a 150 gallon tank, yes thats another story) to an appartment that has a wood burning fire place in the same room that i plan to put the tank in. Is this a recipe for disaster? If I burn newspaper and wood, would that harm the tank? maybe at least not very great for it? stay away from those fire starters that are one log of wax and other substances in a paper rapper? Thanks for the input.

If the flue is closed it would (you'd have bigger problems at this point! :P), otherwise you're safe. ;)

BTW, welcome to reefs.org! :D

Okay, thanks for that info. But if the smoke is bad when it contacts the water in large quanities (when the smoke isn't leaving the chiminy) then wouldn't it be mildly damaging in small quanities (some smoke is bound to get in the room). Does anyone have direct expereince with this? Thanks a lot.

You will be ok. I'm pretty sure you would suffer before the tank would

Im pretty sure youre ok...at worst youd get a piece of ash in the tank..then you could use that as carbon

You might want to think about the reduction of O2 or the creation of C02 if you don't have sufficient outside air coming into the space.
