I want a mantis but cannot find one

I live in New York so if you know anyone who is willing to ship or if you know a good on-line shop that has them for fairly cheap please help. I have been asking my lfs for months and they claim they cannot get one for some reason. I have a 20 gal tank setup already and nothing in yet. reply or email me with info [email protected]

Most vendors that serve LFS' are able to get peacock mantids quite easily, but the LFS usually doesn't stock them on purpose unless someone orders one. Do you know what kind of mantis you want? That may make it easier to acquire (because then you can hunt down LR suppliers that get their LR from your chosen mantis' area and find ppl who just bought LR and try to get a hitchhiker from them)

What about ordering it online? Quite a few online vendors have them now.

I have only seen two online vendors that carry them and have reasonable prices with shipping. liveaquaria.com and saltwaterfish.com Do you know any others?

Oh I didn't know reasonable prices was a qualifier. IMO, 99.9% of all retailers (online or not) are jacking people bigtime for peacocks. I have yet to see one for a decent price.

I called another fish store nearby and they told me they can get a large peacock for $40-$50. I guess thats what I would pay for it after shipping anyways if I ordered on-line
