The other two species have more cryptic, mottled coloration (here is a saddleback) and tend to stay smaller (12" vs. 18"+):

Yeah, my hope was to catch them, but as you said, that's the single biggest obstacle. If I happen to come across one in a tidepool (which I have found a few rocky type environments with nearby eelgrass beds) then I'm sure that will be about the only way I can get one. Most divers have spotted them at night as they tend to take cover and stay pretty well hidden during the day.

If you can find a seine net fisherman in a seagrass area they'll probably be able to catch you one also. Have you considered a bay pipefish?

I have, but I don't quite have the setup for one and don't want to go the eelgrass route. That might be something I try down the road. Right now I'm really focusing on the rocky areas and habitats. Also, I've been studying the marine area fishing rules and regs the last few days, and the only fish that can be caught using a dipnet (the net MUST have a rigid frame) appear to be forage fish (herring, anchovies, sardines, sand lance, and smelt). I'm sure pipefish would count as "other marine fish"...but I don't see any stipulations on how they must be caught, so I might be able to do it myself.

Any thoughts on the plumbing I mentioned?

You could always coat the inside of that tank with epoxy resin, Like the old plywood and glass tanks. A nice uniform coat would seal off the crap underneath, JMHO.

Hey Sky. Cool tank, before I scaled my comp. back we painted everything from minesweepers (most were wood) to container cranes at the port. So I know a little about rusty metal and marine env. If you want to paint the tank let me know and I will give you a list of easy, least expensive mat. to to it. Andy
