Please help!! In march of this year I set up a 225gallon reef. Dolphin 2300 pump, ecosysytem 3616 w/mud, 2 400 watt metal halides, 2 96 watt blue atinic, and UV Sterilizer

While my live rock is beautifull and some hardy corals are doing well, I feel that my system is lacking. The pump flow is poor. I have gone from 24hr lighting on mud to 12 to 18. Continue to have red slime algae and cant keep calurpa alive. Started with feather, then purchased spagetti (Chaetoa) from Indiana on line co. Calurpa does not grow. Turns to slime. Have green algae in tank with alot of critters. My temp ranges between 80-82. Calc 360-420. Constantly using Marin Tropic Phosphate remover but it keeps coming back. Have ro/Di unit for top off. Have 25 fish with no nitrates.

Considering Artica Chiller 1/3?
Little fishes phosphate system
Kent Nautilis Skimmer
New pump with better flow-Suggestions-Iwakii?

Getting rid of mud system and converting to sump or sand?

I am so confused.

Any help?

IMO, you have too many fish. I can't even imagine 25 in a 225 unless they are all gobies and such. I have a 150 with 8 fish and mostly small ones and consider my bioload medium/high. If I went to a 225 I would imagine maybe 12-15 fish max.

For flow in that big of a tank go with a tunze stream or a series of 5-7 maxi-jet 1200's. You may also consider doing a over the side closed loop with a few mag 9.5's.

You would get awesome flow with a few Tunze Stream 6100's, maybe 2 or 4. Replace system pump with a Sequence Dart. Get a real protein skimmer. Maybe a aspirating needle wheel or beckett head. There are alot of fish it sounds like...especially if you can't get nutrients down. What TDS does your RO water come out at? You should find that out. Why not run some carbon too?

sounds to me like the algae in the display is controlling the tank (nitrates). Have you tried decreasing the lights in the display and increasing the lights on the fuge? That should help reverse the situation which seems to have happened since you reduced the lighting on the refug.

Just a guess.
