I have an aiptasia outbreak in my 75 gal. reef tank. Talked to some people at a LFS and they suggested I inject them with a small amount of lemon juice. Has anyone ever done this? I want to make sure that I'm not getting some bad advice and do something that could cause problems with other animals in the tank. Any help would be appreciated.
thanks, Bill

Search the forums here. I have seen this topic several time. While I have never had the problem, it seems the the lemon juice treatment has worked for others

I heard lemon juice may work. I injected mine with a kalk paste. I also added a pepermint shrimp and it got rid of the remaining aiptasia

Joe's Juice. I swear by it.

Then add some natural control like peppermints or some aptasia eating nudis.

Joe's kills the adult ones and any babys that are in drop range of the application. Any others will grow and reproduce at will. Joe's comes with an applicator and I found it really easy to use.

There is no guaranteed solution, but this one... I liked it. My 90 has one, count-em, one aptasia in it right now and that is because I have been too lazy to nuke it.

Just my 2cp worth.

Yep Joe's Juice does it every time for me. Good stuff, toxic, but good, and totally reef safe, just make sure you turn off your powerheads.

My pep has kept my tank totally free of those pests since I put him in last summer. :D

I have had the same kind of success with my pep.

Get unlucky, though, and you'll have a pep that likes to climb aiptasia, and that's about it.

I might have a problem with adding a peppermint shrimp unless it was rather large. I have a fuzzy dwarf lionfish and a flame hawk among the local residents. Tonight I noticed an aiptasia has attached itself to the side of one of my brains. I picked up a syringe tonight, Tomorrow they DIE! Thanks to all for your input. Will keep you posted on what works the best for me.

Lemon juice applied that close to your brain? Heck, I hope your brain won't mind.

For aiptasia that close to one of my prize specimen, I prefer using a rigid airline piping to suck it out. I slice off the tip so the tip is actually pretty sharp, use the sharpened tip to scrape off the tissues while the water is being siphoned.
