I have been shopping around for someone to build me a 300-350 gallon glass tank. In general, I want a fairly common 300g measuring 96" x 24" x 30" tall. However, to give me a little more room beneath the tank for pums, etc, I would really like to increase the 24" front-to-back dimension by 2"-3" (I already have all my pumps, skimmer, etc, so I know that things will be tight as it is)(and no, I don't have room for 30" front-to-back, which is the normal next size up).

Anyways, I hear that Mitch at Inter-American is way backed up. So I talked to Glasscages.com. They don't want to build be a tank in non-6" increments (ie, 26"-27" front-to-back). Moreover, they tell me that they use 1/2" glass for their standard 300g eurobraced tank. This seems a bit thin. But for some odd reason, they won't build me a tank with 5/8" or 3/4" glass. Go figure? But they are cheap - probably around a $1K for their standard 300g tank (reef-ready). Oceanic wants closer to $4K for the tank, but at least I would the know the tank is a lot more bullet proof. Although at 4 times the cost, it ought to be.

Anywho, anybody have any thoughts on Glasscages.com and their use of 1/2" glass for a tank that big? Anybody else out there buliding large glass tanks besides Oceanic, Inter-American, and Glasscages?
