Anemones and dead onions?

I look at my tank and inside my condy anemone (like 5-6" in diam.) there is this deflated pouch that resembles a dead onion. There are black 'veins' that stat at the bottom like longitude lines and spread up the sides. It has no definite shape or size, very soft and translucent. It is currently hanging out of my anemones mouth. WTF is this? Srry no pix cuz no digicam. :? 8O

I think your describing the mouth, actinopharnyx (throat) and mesenteries which are cross-sections of the anemone. The mouth sometimes is elevated from the oral disc on a conical projection. Without a picture that's pure conjecture.

I just recently bought a bubble tip and I have been experiencing exactly what you described. I have tried to notice if there was any trend associated with this, but regardless of when I add food, plankton, or calc/alk to the tank, he will still randomly shrivel up and expose what I guess is his mouth.

How long have you had your anemone for? I have been trying to attribute this behavior to an adjusting period to my tank… I am hoping that you can support my theory but telling me that you just recently bought your anemone too... otherwise, I am going to have to continue to search for some alternative explanation.

Well, I've had the anemone for several months and this has never happened AFAIK. I think mr. mohr is right, as the 'thing' is gone now and i guess retracted in-what he describes fits it. Also, the anemone was perfectly wide-out open and this onion thing was dangly in the midst of its tentacles.

Any other info plz share!

My BTA will sometimes do somthing similar to that.. I think it's a sort of "water change" for the guys

I disagree that is anything "normal" and more a sign of stress. All the anemones I have owned and seen over the years shrink down and shrivel to do their water change/cleansing but when it actually starts turning insideout and expelling its inards/mouth it's been stressed.
