Effects of freezing DT Live Phytoplankton

Based on the recommendation of my LFS, I placed my DT’s live phytoplankton in the freezer; this is my first time purchasing any type of phytoplankton. Several hours later, I went to dose my tank and what’s left, a solid block of phytoplankton. I just now noticed that there’s a label stating that they‘re Not supposed to be stored in the freezer....I know, I know.

So my question is; should I toss the bottle or can it still serve its function if I simply let the bottle defrost?

Thanks

Yeah, I received a response from the company, great customer service; it?s basically of no use now. I?ll go back to the store and try to get a refund or exchange. Just out of curiosity, does DT?s Phytoplankton once it?s opened last for several months? I was told from my LFS that it does but I?m second guessing that statement.

you're suppose to shake it up every day or couple days, otherwise they settle on top of each other and kill each other.
If shaken up regularly, I would believe it to last for a month, but its quality slowly degrades as time passes though

freezing any of these live foods causes the cell walls to rupture creating a "soup" of tiny parts and what was once inside the cells walls. The same goes for the oyster eggs. Freezing any of these foods will render them pretty ineffective as far as feeding since they are no longer intact and much harder for corals to capture. Most of what they can capture of the remains are of minimal nutritional value anyway.

It's Photo. My understanding now is that the oyster eggs actually are intended to be stored in the freezer it's the photo or phytoplankton that's refrigerated.

Fortunately, the store was understanding and replaced the product.
