How long have you had it? The amount of energy derived from photosynthesis is inversely proportional to the size of the clam. The small ones just don't have a very thick mantle. So they need to be fed phytoplankton from what I understand.

Here are some pics of it. Its about doubled in size, close to two inches now.

These are pretty bad pics, its in a bad spot. (ive since moved him) with a bad camera, with a bad photographer.

It's getting to the point to where im having a hard time keeping the calcium normal ranges between water changes. It goes down to about 380-390 the day before water changes. It gets around 400-420 around wendsday night. I change water on fridays. I 'spect its only going to get worse the bigger he gets, so going to have to start doing the two part additives soon.

There are 2 Petcos about the same distance from where I live. I have to say that the differance between the 2 are like night and day (as far as caring for their marine animals). I has a LOT to do with the manager. One Petco keeps its corals and other photosensitive critters under nice MH lighting, the other under NO lighting. One keeps its corals on eggrate for display and ease of cleaning the tank, the other on rocks coverd with brown slime algae. One Has fish that RARELY live a week in their tank because of inadequate water parameters, the other ALWAYS has a nice stock of things.

While Petco IS A CHAIN I find their stores can vary greatly. The one that doesnt fare so well doesn't do NEARLY as much business as the other, and therefore can't afford decent equipment. They should probably keep with the FW stuff as it is GENERALLY cheaper to maintain.

Once I accidentally bit into a rotten apple, but I still like apples in general :)

Boy you'de hate my Petco. The conditions suck for the fish and shrimps they keep. At least they do not carry corals or clams, but in general they shouldn't carry anything marine at all. To this day I still remember the little four bar damsel being ripped apart by a yellow tang. It didn't have any fins left but was still gasping as it was being shreaded  It made my heart bleed. Never more shall I shop at my Petco :x

Tackett,
It's looking good. I wish I could say mine looked that good after a year. I have grown a few 3" maximas into big ones, but I've had terrible luck with the small ones that size. Good luck!

Dunno about AZ, but around here it's loosely guarded knowledge that vets get a kickback for pushing Science Diet on their victims.. It's not even a very good food - were it me, I'd take my almighty dollar and take it somewhere the staff actually care about me.

Thanks man, always makes me feel good to get compliments from someone with alot more reefing skill and experience. I usually target feed him with phyto and a syringe every day on top of squirting a assload of phyto in the water. This is probably why I have a small cyano outbreak now, but Im hoping it will die back soon. Im getting a 4 1/2 inch crocea soon as I get the money, Getting it for about 60 bucks, couldnt pass it up. Ill post pics of him too.
