Plan on using a used Precision Marine skimmer in my new set up and wonder if I'm missing something. Does a waste collector serve any other purpose than to allow you to collect larger amounts of skimmate between cleanings?
Most of them allow placement of carbon to filter the air exiting the waste collector. Without carbon the highend skimmers can stink up a room in a few hours.
Some of them use a floating ball to help shutdown a skimmer's foam production in the event the skimmer starts foaming very wet skimmate and the waste collector fills (overflows). It is not foolproof but it does help.
